Tribute to Our Dearest Auntie Margaret

Created by Donna 2 years ago
Agee- Dedee, that’s what they called the twins;  firstborn of  our  grandparents, Ann and Prince Greaves of Montserrat island ,West Indies.
From our childhood, we had heard incredible stories about Mom and Dedee. Stories of their miraculous birth as twins joined together at the lower limb with matching scars.Surgical separation could not break their unique eternal bond. Mom told stories of how they did everything together: always holding hands, skipping , running, singing and praying, sharing secrets and private jokes; suffering and rejoicing together with all of life’s ups and downs.

Together, as young girls they worked hard from sun up to sun down gathering and selling provisions at the local market all before going to school. They were indeed the cream of the crop, the best generation as evidenced by their strong devotion to God, undying and sacrificial love for family and their humble, unwavering faithful commitment to the ever lasting gospel of the Lord Jesus which was the central theme of Aunty Margaret’s last conversation with me.

We loved the stories that Mom told us about Aunty Margaret. Mom said Aunty was the feisty one, never feeling satisfied until she spoke her mind and would  somehow manage to escape the paternal chastening rod!

Mom shared numerous stories of Aunty’s kindness and devotion to her and her children. Aunty  had these premonitions , sensing when something was wrong and would just show up when Mom needed her most. Like that time when Mom was about to give birth to one of the 8 children and Aunty came out of no where and was of such great support to her and stayed on and cared for the other children while Mom recuperated.

When Aunty Margaret came to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in the late 1980’s, I missed meeting her as I was away at college. But thank the good Lord, I got my chance to finally meet and get to know this amazing, kind, humble, incredible Aunt that Mom  spoke of so affectionately.

It was the year 2017, in the state of Texas, USA, where I finally met my Mom’s twin, Margaret Greaves, who traveled all the way from England with her devoted daughter, Yvonne to celebrate their 90th birthday! My Dougie and I immediately fell in love with this tiny, sweet lady! We spent an amazing 2 months doing everything together. One of the most memorable and joyous days of my life was walking hand in hand with Mom , Aunty Margaret and Uncle Raymond on the streets of Texas listening as they both shared precious memories of their time growing up together.
On that sad late September day of their departure back to England, Mom and I knew 2017 would be the last time that we would see Aunty Margaret! But for  2 months in Texas in 2017, I got to see my Mom and her conjoint twin sister together, sharing, and talking late into he night, finishing each others thoughts, and memories .  For 2 months in 2017, Aunty encouraged and admonished me to seek God  while it is day. She left me a devotional guide book which I would cherish along with her memory in my heart forever.
Aggie- Dedee, Sunrise- 1927. Sunset- 2021. Both resting in Jesus. Someday, reunited in that  Land that is as clear as day, where there will be no night there! They will run, skip, laugh, hold hands and bask  in the sunshine on the streets of the New Jerusalem, never ever to part again!

Forever in our hearts, Aunty Margaret. Your Agee’s children- Elford, Mona, Belgrove, Izine, Edson, Berris, Donna and Bernadette, until we meet again!❤️🙏🏽❤️
